Your First Plant

This guide walks you step by step from opening Kamerplanter for the first time to having your first plant -- complete with a watering schedule and tasks.

1. Start the Onboarding Wizard

When you open Kamerplanter for the first time, the Onboarding Wizard greets you. It guides you through setup in five short steps.

Already completed the wizard?

You can restart the wizard at any time: Go to Account Settings and click Restart Onboarding Wizard.

2. Choose your experience level

In the first step, choose how much experience you have with plant care:

Level What you see
Beginner Only the core features: plants, locations, tasks, watering
Intermediate Plus fertilization, tanks, sensors, and calendar
Expert All features -- including IPM, VPD, EC tracking, and propagation

You can change the level at any time without losing data. Kamerplanter only hides UI elements -- your data remains fully intact.

3. Describe your environment

Briefly describe where your plants are. For example:

  • "Kitchen window, south-facing"
  • "Balcony, partial shade"
  • "Grow tent 120x120"

Kamerplanter uses this info to suggest suitable starter kits.

4. Choose a Starter Kit

A starter kit is a pre-configured package with plant species, locations, and matching settings. Just pick the one that fits you best:

Starter Kit What you get
Windowsill Herbs Basil, parsley, chives -- perfect for getting started
Houseplant Starter Monstera, pothos, peace lily -- the most popular houseplants
Pet-Friendly Houseplants Only non-toxic plants for homes with pets
Balcony Tomatoes Tomato, pepper -- balcony vegetables for beginners
Succulents & Cacti Low-maintenance succulents
Mediterranean Herbs Rosemary, thyme, oregano
Balcony Chillies Various chilli varieties for the balcony
Vegetable Bed Classic vegetable bed with companion planting
Indoor Grow Tent Controlled indoor growing with phase management

No matching kit?

No problem -- you can always add your own plants after the wizard. The kits are just a quick start.

5. Set plant counts & favorites

In the next step, you see the plants from your chosen kit. Here you can:

  • Adjust the count per plant type (e.g. 3 basil instead of 1)
  • Mark plants as favorites -- these appear at the top of your dashboard

6. Review and finish

Review the summary and click Finish. Kamerplanter now automatically creates:

  • Your plants with matching growth phases
  • A location based on your environment description
  • Initial tasks (e.g. "Water basil", "Check location")

7. Your Dashboard

After the wizard, you land on the Dashboard. Here you see at a glance:

  • Upcoming tasks -- what needs to be done today
  • Your plants -- with current status and phase
  • Care reminders -- when the next watering round is due
